Media Extraordinaire Amanda Matshaka to be Honoured by Icons of Africa Awards

Award-winning South African media extraordinaire, businesswoman, and philanthropist Amanda Matshaka is set to receive a prestigious honour from the Icons of Africa Awards. With a career spanning over two decades, Matshaka’s impressive body of work has earned her recognition as one of the continent’s most influential game-changers.

A Trailblazing Career

Matshaka’s journey in the media industry began after completing her Bachelor of Science degree in Communication from the historic University of Fort Hare. She worked her way up the ranks, starting as a radio host, writer, and news anchor at various community radio stations. Her big break came in 2007 when she joined the South African Broadcasting Cooperation (SABC), where she read news for Tru FM and then joined SABC’s international radio station – Channel Africa the following year. She also read news for national radio stations, including Radio 2000 and SA FM. In 2022 she was promoted to National News Editor – talk about an absolute overachiever. Amanda Matshaka is truly a powerhouse, everything she touches turns to Gold.

A Powerhouse of Achievements

In addition to her impressive media career, Matshaka is also a renowned philanthropist. She founded Kingdom Helpers of Africa Non-Profit Organisation in 2012, which aims to help disadvantaged communities in South Africa. Through this organization, she assisted in establishing Untold in South Africa, which works towards creating a world where no story is cut short or silenced by AIDS, an organisation that she currently leads as Regional Manager.

A Legacy of Empowerment

Matshaka is also an award-winning media personality and a fellow of the prestigious TMP Coaching & Fellowship Program at Poynter Media Institute in St. Petersburg, Florida, USA. She is the founder of Anointed Media, SA Positive News, and The South African Heroes Awards. Her media company also runs a media academy that trains future journalists.

When asked about the honour, Matshaka said, “This is special for me because it is honouring my initiatives and that is a big deal. Seeing an idea you conceived come to life, reaching great heights, and being recognised at this level is humbling and encouraging.”

What’s Next for Amanda Matshaka?

With her already impressive career, one wonders what’s next for this media mogul. Matshaka shared, “I’ve been blessed with realising all my aspirations in the media space. I’ve been inspired to use the decades of experience gained to establish my media brand Anointed Media that I would like to see grow and take up a fair share of space in the industry.”
