Mr Osama – fresh from his double clean sweep at this year’s South African Music Awards, vanquishing the Samro highest airplay composers nod for his hit single “Osama”. He also clinched the coveted coke studio best collaboration gong.
He now adds another monumental achievement to his already impressive CV. Zakes Bantwini is beaming with pride after bagging his first Grammy nomination.
Bantwini has been in the industry for more than 15 years. This year is undoubtedly his best year ever as he continues to rack up accolades – receiving the recognition he deserves. We stan a hard working musical genius!
Nominations for the 65th instalment of the Grammy Awards were recently announced, with Zakes scoring a nod alongside internationally recognized vocalists Nomcebo Zikode, and Wouter Kellerman.
The trio is nominated under the Best Global Performance category for the song Bayethe.
Zakes Bantwini recently announced his retirement from music. The star is set to retire from producing music for himself but says he is currently cooking up a storm in the studio as he is working on his final body of work.

Zakes has made it clear to his many adoring fans that he is not retiring from the music scene, but he will stop producing music under his name.
The Osama hit maker says his last album will be titled Abantu, and it will be the most memorable one because it came at the right time when he is still at the peak of his career.
His last offering “Abantu” will be released on the 24th of March 2023.
Zakes has also made it known that in 2023, he will be embarking on a tour to promote his album and then call it quits after two years.
