In a celebration of unsung community heroes this past Saturday (September 25), Lesedi auditorium at Joburg theatre was buzzing with ululations as South African Heroes Awards 2021 winners were announced.
Clad in their heritage best in celebration of Heritage Month, guests came from near and far to sing praises of their community heroes. Some guests adorned evening wear in an event that also celebrated winners of the Miss United Nations SA pageant – in a one of a kind collaboration between the awards and the pageant.
“These awards recognize the work done by community heroes in bettering their people. It’s a token of appreciation for people who are doing amazing things and an expression that says we see you, we appreciate your work”, said awards founder, Amanda Matshaka.
Actress Linda Njotini-Ugbobuaku from Akhonix Bafazi women empowerment organization who was a finalist in SA Heroes Awards in 2020 was the host of the third installment of the awards.
Jubilant winners took to the stage to accept their awards. The awards issued certificates of recognition to first and second runners-up in each of the categories.
