“A Campaign for Eye Health Awareness and Support for Visually impaired South Africans”
On October 18, the South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind invites all South Africans to proudly wear their coolest sunglasses, helping to raise awareness about eye health and showing support for visually impaired in our country.
For 70 years, the South African Guide Dogs Association has been at the forefront of transforming lives through the provision of guide dogs, services dogs, autism support dogs and orientation and mobility services.
Wear Your Shades Day is a fundraising initiative aimed at highlighting the importance of protecting our eyes from the sun’s harmful rays thereby reducing the risk of vision loss. With this year’s theme “Wear Your Shades and Share Your Shine”, the campaign also aims to promote support for the visually impaired community through recognising and celebrating their individual brilliances regardless of disability.
As the only accredited organisation in South Africa that provides essential life skills training, assistive devices, and guide dogs to people living with visually impairment, all at no cost to them, support is very much needed.
By purchasing a R20 sticker, you will contribute to enhancing the lives of visually impaired individuals through services such as white cane trainings, vital daily living skills training, and guide dog training.
HOD of PR at the SA Guide-Dogs Association, Pieter van Niekerk shares: “Most people are unaware of the different types of visual impairment and how they can proactively prevent vision loss. Through this campaign, we aim to educate the public about better eye care practices and show support for those already living with visual impairments, all while embracing the undeniable coolness of sunglasses.”
“We invite everyone to buy their R20 sticker at our selected resellers and join us on October 18, rocking their shades while raising awareness and essential funds. We rely solely on public support to provide these vital services to people living with visually impairment in our country.”
