Miss South Africa, Lalela Mswane’s Miss Universe journey ended on a very high note, our queen made it to the top 3 on Sunday night, December 12, 2021.
Lalela Mswane was born in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa on March 27, 1997. She was born into a family of three children. She is the youngest of her siblings and has an older brother and sister. The beauty queen made it amidst all the controversy leading to the pageant.
Mswane’s participation in the pageant had been marred in controversy, with politicians and civil society calling on her to take a stance against Israel in that country’s conflict with Palestine.
The SA government pulling their endorsement of her, saying the Miss SA Organisation did not seem eager to appreciate the negative impact of representing the country in Israel.
The Miss SA organisers defended Mswane’s participation, saying it was “not getting involved in a political war of words” but was instead looking forward to watching the recently crowned beauty queen proudly represent the country on an international stage.
The top three of the pegeant were Miss SA, Miss Paraguay and Miss India.
Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu, who represented India was crowned Miss Universe 2021, with Miss Paraguay as the 1st runner-up.

Mswane represented South Africa against contestants from 80 other countries in the competition, which was hosted by comedian Steve Harvey.
“I would like young women to know that since the beginning of time they have had everything within them to achieve anything they wanted, it is the world that convinced that we do not,” said Lalela, in her final speech.
Congratulations Lalela, you’ve made Mzansi proud!!!
