Basadi in Music Awards Opens 2026 Nominations

The Basadi in Music Awards has officially opened nomination for its 2026 edition, marking 5 years of celebrating and elevating women in the music and entertainment industry.

The nominations opened on the 5th of May and will be closing on 30th of May, with a significant stage this year: the awards are expanding beyond South Africa, inviting entries throughout the Arican continent for the first time.

Founded by Hloni Modise Matau, the awards have developed into a platform that recognizes a full spectrum of women that are shaping the industry, ranging from artists and DJs through to radio producers, journalists, stylists and artist managers.

The expansion we see this year as a reflection of a broader vision to create a space that is more inclusive and representative, while also opening participation to international audiences. Using SMS and digital channels alike, the public remains at the heart of the awards, upholding its “for the people, by the people” ethos.

The 2026 edition will once again be returned as a two-night event:

Beyond being an awards show, the Basadi in Music Awards has evolved into a cultural movement that is centered on visibility, recognition and opportunity for women in music, extending beyond South Africa and increasingly reaching across the continent.

Nominations are accessible to the public through SMS for South Africa, Eswatini and Lesotho and via online platforms for the remainder of Africa as well as internation entrants.
