“Excellence deserves recognition and this is the inspiration behind the Woman of Stature Awards. To acknowledge and recognise women in South Africa who are making a significant impact in their communities and industry…”
The auspicious Woman of Stature awards nominations for the 2024 instalment are officially open – just as Women’s month celebrations and commemorations have commenced as well. August is women’s month in South Africa and there’s no better way to give “iimbokodo” their flowers while they can still smell them.
In an exclusive interview with SA POSITIVE NEWS Founder and CEO of the Woman of Stature Foundation, Charlotte du Plessis, reiterated the fact that women from all walks of life must be awarded for their exceptional strides reached in their quest for excellence.
“Excellence deserves recognition and this is the inspiration behind the Woman of Stature Awards. To acknowledge and recognise women in South Africa who are making a significant impact in their communities and industry. Many of these women may still be unknown, flying underneath the radar, and yet they deserve their time to shine”, said Charlotte.
The Woman of Stature awards are already a global phenomenon. The world has caught up and we are here for it. We love it when women take up space and cement themselves, not only in the African diaspora but the world over. “Woman of Stature Awards is already global and had the first global awards in Dubai in 2022. The future plan is to host the awards in an African country which has already been identified as Nigeria, in Washington DC in the US, and London in the UK is also on the map”, Charlotte continued.
The future is certainly bright for the organisation. When SA POSITIVE NEWS asked what their proudest moment since its inception is, Charlotte du Plessis had this to say: “There are many proud moments to speak of, and it is hard to single out one, but if I have to I would say that it must be the moment when I stood on the stage in Dubai and could declare that the Woman of Stature Awards has gone global, and to realise that my vision to become a global brand has actuated.”
To add on that global success and inspiration, the organisation is also nominated at the upcoming and highly anticipated 5th South African Heroes Awards 2023 under the women empowerment category.
“To be nominated in the SA HEROES AWARDS 2023 amongst South African legends is such an honour, and especially as this is the 10th Anniversary year of Woman of Stature. To receive the acknowledgement in the 10th year is an affirmation that the impact Woman of Stature is making is being recognised, and it encourages us to continue the work being done”, said du Plessis, beaming with pride and super elated with this monumental and absolute well-deserved recognition.
If you know a woman who deserves to be recognised at the Woman of Stature awards, then please nominate her or self-nominate. Categories for 2024 are: CEO of the Year; Entrepreneur of the Year (min 2yrs) Woman in Arts and Culture; Woman in Beauty and Fashion; Woman in Coaching and Mentoring; Woman in Community; Woman in Education; Woman in Engineering; Woman in Financial Services; Woman in Healthcare; Woman in Media; Woman in Mining and Woman in Technology.
The stature of the event is compared to a world class event, and every year the bar is set higher. The highlight of the evening is obviously the announcement of the category winners and the overall winner, but in addition to this is the entertainment which is choreographed and performed by finalists in the Woman in Arts and Culture category.
In conclusion – du Plessis officially proved that indeed she is a powerhouse and a philanthropist at heart. Her last words and pearls of wisdom left us in awe of this woman of stature.
“I live by the mantra – If you can dream it, you can do it. My message to all women is to never give up on your dreams. To be patient and accept that it’s a journey without a destination. A journey that requires resilience, patience and tenacity, and not to compare your success to that of others, but that success is measured in the small steps and milestones towards reaching your dream.”
The gala awards dinner will be held on Saturday 13 April 2024 in Johannesburg, and it will a night of pure joy, glitz, glamour and celebration.
