Eldorado Park Community receives free health screening

Breast cancer diagnosis among South African women is increasing and it is one of the most common cancers in the country.

It is the most prevalent cancer amongst white and Asian women and the second most common cancer among black and coloured women. With October being breast cancer awareness month, Eldos FM in association with the Gauteng Department of Health and a few other organizations took it upon themselves to host an event that is aimed at bringing necessary health services and awareness to the people.

Eldos FM recognizes the struggles and issues that people have with the public and private health system, this is the reason behind its partnership with the department of health this past weekend. The event gave the public a platform and opportunity to have one on one discussion about the issues their facing and to also take advantage of the free health services.

Community members registering for their free health tests

Though October is breast cancer awareness month, they chose not to focus only on it but on most health issues that people in the community are faced with – so the event provided services such as HIV and Aids testing, Dental Care, Diabetes testing, eye care as well Breast cancer checking.

“We thought that we might as well include other health services and we would like to give thanks to the provincial and regional department of health for agreeing that an awareness drive is necessary for Eldos and committing to this day.”

The event was a success; it managed to help hundreds of people with their issues, mostly elderly people.
