“Acting will always have a space in my heart and my years of acting in theatre, television and working on radio nurtured my love for storytelling…”
Content has constantly evolved a lot over the years, from telling different stories that have impacted us and built us as Africans to sharing the culture and lifestyle with the world. The content also came with different mediums to share it with the world over the years.
Thato Molamu, better known for his roles on the silver screen has announced he is taking a break from the silver screen to focus fulltime on the business of film and digital content creation through his company Gateway Media.
“Acting will always have a space in my heart and my years of acting in theatre, television and working on radio nurtured my love for storytelling. It also introduced the world to Thato Molamu, for which I will always be eternally grateful. However, I believe there is more I can offer the industry and the African continent as a whole. This is something I’ve wanted to pursue for quite a while and believe the time is right to step away. I believe my entrepreneurial aspirations will benefit more than just myself and my network – but the continents creative youth”, said Thato.
Gateway Media helps clients tell original stories that resonate with audiences and inspire brand confidence. The company has since established itself as a pioneering media company having already won several international awards.
With the 4th industrial revolution taking over, some platforms such as television and print will slowly be phased out because of online platforms. “The business of digital content creation is where the world is headed and there is no turning back. With three of the five fastest growing economies in Africa, it is essential that we give the youth the necessary skills and tools to thrive in a changing world. This is an ideal time to prepare our youth and ensure that we meet standards in line with the Fourth Industrial Revolution across all industries. Covid-19 has not only made this a need but a necessity”, Thato added.
Gateway Media believes that the world is ready for authentic African stories, and that through shared value initiatives such as its flagship township-based Film & Digital Academy, the business can help develop the young creatives to tell them.
