The South African Music Awards are returning to Sun City. The 28th instalment of South Africa’s biggest celebration of music will be held in Sun City, North West, on 28 August 2022.
This comes after two years of virtual ceremonies owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The live show promises #SAMA28 viewers engaging content, one-of-a-kind performances and a prestigious celebration of the country’s top musical talents.
The #SAMA28 nominees were announced on 7 June 2022 with Zakes Bantwini garnering seven nominations and putting him ahead of the pack. He earned nods in the Record of the Year (ROTY) Album of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, Best Dance Album and Best Engineered Album categories in addition to two recognitions in the Best Collaboration category for Imali with Karyendasoul featuring Nana Atta and the Kasango assisted Osama. DJ Maphorisa is not far behind with a Music Video of the Year (MVOTY), four ROTYs nominations and a Remix of the Year recognition.
The show will air on 28 August 2022 on SABC1 at 20:00, with additional details about the host and performers to be announced soon.
In the interim, the public may continue to vote for their favourite nominated acts in Record of the Year, Music Video of the Year and SAMPRA Artist of the Year.
