Dr Malinga has been the talk of town in the past few days. The “Akulaleki” star has been on a roller-coaster ride with the whole of Mzansi in the front row seat of it all. He’s been facing financial woes with the South African Revenue Services (SARS).
Following his tell-all “emotional plea” interview on Podcast and Chill with MacG, where Malinga uttered with a heavy heart that he has been through it with SARS, he mentioned that most of his assets were confiscated by the taxman. Malinga also mentioned that SARS hit him with a R2m bill.
South Africans from all walks of life proved that the spirit of Ubuntu still resonates with them. There has been a glimpse of a light at the end of the tunnel for Dr Malinga.
The talented Musician shared his heartfelt story with the podcast, which then led to a call-out for donations from some of his fans as well as other celebrities intervening to assist the muso who’s fallen on hard times and is evidently adored by many.
Many people have pledged donations to assist Malinga during this trying time. Some of his fellow stars have also extended an extra hand to assist Dr Malinga, the likes of Kabza De Small, DJ Black Coffee, and Makhadzi.
Dr Malinga rubbishes rumours that Grammy award winning DJ Black Coffee has donated an amount of R500 000 but confirmed he received a whopping R20 000 from the DJ.
Black Coffee sent me money … he sent me R20 000,” he said.
While Kabza De Small has gone to studio with the musician and recorded a song with him, amongst other things he has offered him. Makhadzi has invited Dr Malinga to perform on her upcoming One Woman Show that is set to take place in October. Malinga also expressed his gratitude to EFF leader Julius Malema.
Dr Malinga is appreciative of the amount of support his adoring fans are showering him with.
“… also Mr Invisible man with a good heart, BI Phakathi, he sent me R10 000.”
“People are donating money. There’s an amount that touched me so much, only R10 came to my account with a reference ‘God bless you my brother’ … People are blessing me, I’m just overwhelmed… we are reaching R100 000 now”, said Malinga.
Dr Malinga took to Twitter to announce that he has already paid the Taxman an amount of R100K to date.
“Just paid 100k to SARS Thank you so much Fam Thanks bye”, Dr Malinga tweeted.
In the Podcast and Chill interview, Malinga echoed some heart-breaking sentiments – that people closest to him could not help him out of his unfortunate financial predicament.

He has since expressed his gratitude to MacG and his team, thanking them profusely for allowing him to share his story. Which has led to a number of people extending their hands to assist where they can.

Malinga is adamant that he is not taking the donations for granted and is looking to pay it forward and help others in the same situation as soon as he gets back on his feet.
