Rikhado Muziwendlovu Makhado popularly known as Ricky Rick born 1987, 20 July was a jack of all trades and definitely a master of all. He was a rapper, singer and songwriter. He was also the founder and owner of his own record label Cotton Club Records.
We got to appreciate his love for fashion when he was a member of Boyz N Bucks. He was the king of swag, a fashion icon who was never afraid to take fashion risks and they somehow always paid off.
King Kotini became a household name when he released his single “Nafukwa” in 2014.
Ricky Rick released his debut studio album Family Values in 2015 which became certified platinum by the Recording Industry of South Africa.
His single “Sidlukotini” was released in 2016 and it instantly became a national anthem. “Boss Zonke” was released in October 2014 and it went viral instantly.
In November 2018, Makhado announced his first concert called “Cotton Fest”, which he headlined on 2 February 2019. He was for the uplifting of young artists, always advocating for better opportunities for them.
Rick Rick was married to Bianca Naidoo. They have two children, daughter, Jordan and a son named Maik Daniel.
The admired artist died on 23 February 2022 at the age of 34. The cause of death was reported to be suicide after a lengthy battle with depression.
Rest in power! Rest in peace King Kotini! You will forever be remembered as a pioneer of black excellence and grooming up and coming creatives. Your legacy will live on forever.
