Mzansi has lost yet another giant. 2022 is the worst year ever in celebville. We have lost yet another icon. Jamie Bartlett has died at 55. Details surrounding his death at this stage are still sketchy.
Many remember Jamie for his iconic role as David Genaro on e.tv soapie, Rhythm city. A name he carried till the end. Proving just how prolific he was. Bartlett went on to win a Safta for best Actor as David Genaro.
He started playing his role as David Genaro in 2007.
Bartlett was the first person to speak in scene 1 on the popular TV series Isidingo as character Mike O’Riley when it was aired on South African television. On the set of Isidingo he acted opposite Hlomla Dandala who acted as Derek Nyathi.
In 1997, Bartlett acted in the action MNET movie made for TV- The Sexy Girls 3. The gang-movie genre showcased the realities of the gangster life in Cape Town. Jamie also worked alongside Hollywood’ superstars like Steve James, Hillary Swank and Angelina Jolie.
Bartlett also guest starred in the South African, Canadian TV series Jozi-H the TV series is a hospital drama set in Johannesburg, South Africa. He was also a judge on SA’s Got Talent alongside Shadow Twala and DJ Fresh.
His accolades on screen and theatre are absolutely fit for a king that he was. So effortlessly talented. His contributions to showbiz will never be forgotten. His professionalism and work ethos inspired his fellow thespians. A legend. Gone too soon.
He is survived by his wife, and his son whom he shared with former Generations Actress Camila Waldman.
